The Lonsdale Dress is the perfect summer sundress. It’s fitted on top with a flared skirt, with your choice of a flattering knee-length or dramatic, full-length dress.

This dress is designed with a pear-shaped figure in mind. Knotted bodice and halter neckline draw attention to the shoulders, while the narrow waistband highlights the waist. The skirt is softly flared from the waistline to create a flattering silhouette. Pockets in the skirt are easy to sew and add a practical touch to this pretty dress. Sizing is proportioned for a pear-shaped figure: smaller bust and waist, larger hips.

The dress neckline may look complicated, but it’s simple to construct! Change the look by tying a half-knot or a full knot in the front. Shoulder straps are completely adjustable, tying in a bow at centre back. Just untie the bow and pull the straps tighter as needed. Bodice is self-lined, skirt is unlined, with a centre back zipper closure.

The dress you’ll live in, all summer long!

  1. Great for beginners!

Posted by Lindsay on 30th Nov 2013

A couple years ago, this was my first garment sewing project! I got an excellent result following the sewalong -- there are some great beginner specific tips in there. I do find that this is a warm weather dress as the bow is hard to wear under a sweater. Maybe it would work ok under a more structured jacket. But i love the bow feature! One thing I do recommend is pulling the straps in front tighter than it initially seems you should - I've read a few people who think that it gapes but this is solved by tugging a bit tighter for a great fit. Cute dress, fun to wear, superb sewalong to follow for it.

  2. Went together beautifully!

I made this dress for my friend's wedding reception. I just learned to sew a couple months prior, but the dress came together for me very easily. I did shorten the bodice quite a bit so the waistband would hit my friend at her narrowest point.
