Job Description: Freelance Sample Sewer

We’re seeking a freelance Sample Sewer to sew samples of our pattern designs.

About us:

Sewaholic Patterns is a Vancouver-based company that publishes home sewing patterns for womenswear. Our goal is to revive the art of home sewing, teach sewing techniques, and inspire people to sew their own clothing. We’re all about writing great instructions, creating classic designs, and producing styles that look great on a 'pear' shaped figure. We're a small growing company, and we're looking to expand our team!

Job responsibilities:

  • Cut, sew and finish garment samples for photoshoots as required
  • Alter, adjust and repair samples as needed

What our ideal candidate looks like:

We’re looking for someone who sews accurately, quickly, and efficiently. You care about the little things, like perfectly straight topstitching, invisible hems, and beautifully inserted zippers. You’re willing to take on any sewing project, from swimwear to tailored jackets to formal wear!

You’re interested in working from home on a casual, as-needed basis. You know how important deadlines are and you’re good at knowing how long projects take you to complete.

You’re attentive to details and believe that presentation matters. You have a relaxed, happy attitude while caring deeply about the work you do.

Skills required:

  • Advanced sewing and garment construction skills
  • Able to sew a range of garments and create photo-shoot ready samples
  • Ability to sew samples within a short time frame
  • Skill in altering garments and making fitting adjustments
  • Experience working with a variety of fabrics, both knit and woven
  • Excellent attention to detail

Job details:

This is a freelance position, working from home with your own tools and sewing machine. Hourly rate will be based on skill and experience. You can work when you want, as long as you can meet our deadlines. We’ll set out the deadlines for each round of samples at the beginning, so you know what to expect.

We anticipate it will be about 20 hours a month, with more work during busy periods. You'll work from home, but will come to our Vancouver office occasionally to pick up new work and review the samples.

How to apply:

  • Tell us about yourself, about your sewing experience and why you’d be a great sample sewer for our pattern designs.
  • Please include links to your work if available. If you’re called for an interview, be prepared to bring samples of your work.
  • Include a current resume.
